Generals

I have been a full professor of computer science at Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informatica e Sistemistica(DEIS) of Università della Calabria (Rende, Italy) since 2003 and research associate with ICAR-CNR since 2004. Recently, I was appointed as vice-Dean of the Faculty Engineering and elected as the Director of the PhD program in Systems and Computer Engineering at Università della Calabria.
Previously, I held an assistant professor position (1991-1998), an associate professor position (1998-2000) at DEIS and, from 2000 to 2003, a full professorship at Dipartimento di Informatica, Matematica, Elettronica e Trasporti (DIMET), Università degli Studi di Reggio Calabria (Reggio Calabria, Italy).
I was a visiting scholar at UCLA (Los Angeles, USA), AT&T Laboratories (Murray Hills, USA), Oxford University (Oxford, UK) and Technical University of Wien (Wien, Austria).
I am one of the co-founders of Exeura, a spin-off company of the Università della Calabria operating in the area of Knowledge Management.

Research interests

My research interests are in the areas of information systems and databases, data mining, artificial intelligence and knowledge representation, agents, game theory, bioinformatics.

I serve as the Area Editor for "Knowledgebases and Ontologies" for the European J. on Artificial Intelligence (AI Communications).

I act as a reviewer of published literature for Zentralblatt MATH and AMS- Mathematical Reviews.

I have served in the program commitees of several conferences, recently:
  • International Joint Conference on AI (IJCAI-2009).
  • IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Intelligent Agent Technology (IAT-09)
